ART PAPI BY MIGUEL FIGUEROA
Miguel Figueroa is the creator and founder of Art Papi. He began his career as a journalist in 2007 writing reviews of concerts for The San Juan Star. In 2008 he became the first fashion editor of Vice Spain and from 2009 to 2012 he was senior editor of Luis Venegas. He has collaborated as a writer and/or editor for Interview, V Magazine, El País, Vanity Fair Spain, Pin-Up, Hercules Universal, Apartment and USA Today. Upon returning to Puerto Rico in 2015, he began to notice new movements. and conversations arising. “The island called me back. Puerto Rico It was changing rapidly and I couldn’t stay in New York receiving updates from social networks. “I had to be here.” The following year, he began interviewing artists for the project. Which emerged is a sample of his vision of Puerto Rico: one that is stimulating, fun, fresh, global and provocative. Miguel has a BBA in Marketing and Art History from the University from Puerto Rico, a Master’s Degree in Contemporary Art Theory from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Postgraduate studies in Art and Photography Direction at the Elisava School of Design in Barcelona. He has also carried out curatorial projects with galleries Cerra and El Kilómetro Campus.

Art Papi is an archival book of contemporary history and subculture in Puerto Rico through an artistic lens. Art Papi is an account of the creative blossoming that occurred on the island in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria and a questioning of our political and cultural landscape. Art Papi provides insight into the voices of creatives who were questioning this emerging nexus while sharing with readers the strength of their vulnerabilities as artists.
